Hi! My name is Sara Button and I am a human with many interests who currently lives in Denton, Texas. I've been writing online since 1999 (LiveJournal, what’s up!?), and I’ve always loved creating and building simple, content-heavy websites. I started doing that while I was in high school and college and never really stopped.

I can best be described as a professional homebody. I’d rather be at home with my family and animals, where I can usually be found playing with my nephew, organizing and scanning film, petting dogs, reading, gardening, or tinkering with some kind of creative project. In between all of that, I work a full-time day job in digital content and occasionally take on freelance projects, too.

Over the years I’ve built and led several creative and community-driven projects. From 2016–2019, I co-created The Dentonite, an online publication focused on the culture, people, and everyday happenings of Denton, Texas. What started as a passion project grew into a daily digital publication supported by a volunteer team of writers, photographers, and contributors who helped document the life of the city during that time.

In 2021, I launched Marfa Film Shop, a small multi-channel retail project centered around analog photography and film culture. I designed and produced original merchandise, curated film photography products, and built and managed a custom e-commerce site while also running a small physical storefront in Marfa, Texas. The project allowed me to combine my love of photography, design, retail, and storytelling into one creative experiment.

Community work has always been important to me as well. I served as an event organizer for Help-Portrait: Dentonfrom 2013 through 2017. In 2017, a friend and I launched Denton Stands with Planned Parenthood, an annual fundraising event supporting Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas. Our first event raised more than $5,000, and the second raised more than $3,000 in donations.

In 2016, my friend Matthew Sallack and I created a pop-up art show concept to help raise funds for the Denton Community Market. The events we organized in 2016 and 2017 were, separately, the most profitable single-day fundraising efforts the Market had received to date.

At my core, I enjoy creating and doing. Feeling and loving. Inspiring others and being inspired by the people around me. I try to live my life with humility and understanding. I believe in sharing ideas and encouraging the people around me to step outside their comfort zones — something I try to do myself as often as possible. I’ve learned that the most meaningful work often comes when you’re pushed beyond what feels easy, and for those experiences I am always grateful.

Photography has been a constant thread through my life. I enjoy shooting on many different cameras, both digital and analog. I’m especially fond of Polaroid and other instant film formats, and I’ve been shooting 35mm since middle school. One of my earliest memories with film was standing inside the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., in 7th grade, frantically trying to change a roll of film before everyone finished their lunch. I’ve been hooked ever since. For the past two decades (or longer), there has almost always been a camera somewhere nearby.

Feel free to shoot me an email sometime — I’d love to hear from you.
